Dear Polaris Tech families and community,
It is my pleasure to introduce myself as the new executive director at Polaris Tech. I’ll officially be starting July 1, but I plan to participate remotely in the coming weeks and to physically spend some time in the school and community later this spring.
I am thrilled to be joining such a strong team of navigators and support staff, and to be working for and with a growing community. When I met with the Board of Directors a few weeks ago, I toured the beautiful school facility and I was impressed by the thought that went into blending the school design with Polaris Tech’s approach to learning.
Here’s a little bit about me: I earned my Doctorate in Urban Educational Leadership and Master of Education in Educational Leadership from National Louis University, and my Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Illinois State University. This year my wife and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and we have four children. In my spare time I enjoy photography and sports. My favorite sports teams have been our hometown Chicago Bulls and Chicago Bears. I enjoy listening to all kinds of music. What I feel is most important is my belief that all students can learn and grow. I value collaboration, innovation, and building relational trust with staff, students and families.
There are a number of things that attracted me to Polaris Tech Charter School. The first thing was, I embrace the way the school approaches teaching and learning. Project-based learning, personalized learning paths, and competency-based progress are cornerstones to how I have approached education. My experience, and my educational philosophy, align with Polaris Tech.
I see great opportunities for the school, the learners, and the community to grow. There are so many positive things happening in the area, including the news I saw about the new Jasper port coming back on the front burner. I also have to mention the warm weather and the great people I met during my visit.
I look forward to meeting you and the students in person later this spring or summer, in a socially distanced way, or even through a large Zoom meeting if that is safest for all.
I appreciate the Board’s faith in me to lead your fine school, and I look forward to joining you soon.
