Highly-qualified, innovative and energetic teachers are being hired for Polaris Tech Charter School in Ridgeland, SC, starting today.
Online applications are available at www.polaristech.org – along with information about the new state charter school, its mission and its approach to teaching and learning.
Polaris Tech is a project-based, blended learning, technology-rich school for middle and high school students, opening in August for students in grades 6-10. The school anticipates growing to serve a full middle and high school enrollment in two years.
“We are looking for team players who thrive in a learning environment that is fluid and flexible, where student needs and aspirations shape the path,” said Sandra Chavez, chair of the Polaris Tech Steering Committee.
Highly-qualified, South Carolina-certified teachers are preferred. Ideal candidates would have experience in a project-based program and be familiar with using mobile technology and virtual learning to boost student achievement.
“Polaris Tech is going to be transformative,” said Dr. William Singleton, a former superintendent of Jasper County School District and a founding member of Polaris Tech.
“At Polaris Tech, students will engage in hands-on work experience, interact with professionals in the community and gain insight into fields and occupations that spark interest and ignite passion. That requires a different type of teacher than we see in many schools – and that’s the type of teacher we are recruiting.”
Polaris Tech is a state-approved charter school to serve middle and high school students from Jasper County and the Lowcountry. It is a free school (no tuition), that will focus on preparing young people for successful work and college. 2
In addition to core subjects, the Polaris Tech academic emphasis will be on six career paths: Aerospace, health science, information technology, logistics, advanced manufacturing, and business management. Polaris Tech expects to enroll about 230 students in grades 6-10 for the school year starting in August.
Information about the teaching openings is being shared in media outlets across South Carolina, along with universities with strong education programs.
Student applications are being accepted at www.polaristech.org through March 31. The school is being built on land across from the Ridgeland Airport and will open to students in August 2018.
